So You Want To Be A Student?

From time to time I am asked how does one become a Student of the Order of the Red Grail. The first thing I tell folks is to visit our open events, such as the open full moon circles or our Mysteries of Wicca classes.

The next step is to get to know some of the members. The full members, or ‘inner court’ of the Grail wear red, blue, or white cords (traditional color scheme). Regular students don’t have a cord, but the advanced students (Dedicants) wear green cords. Students comprise our ‘outer court.’ One of the best ways to get to know folks is to attend the post celebration revel after the full moons – otherwise known as having food at Village Inn.

After you have checked us out a bit to see if we are a good match for you, you may request a petition for Student Status. We don’t offer them, you have to ask.

The petition is composed of 13 questions. They are to be filled out in detail. Applications have run anywhere from about a page and a half to over a dozen pages. It depends on how much the applicant has to say.

The applicant then turns their petition into a member of the Inner Court, usually a member of the clergy (blue or white cords). The Inner Court will then review the petition and make a decision on whether to accept the petitioner as Student or not.

If accepted, the applicant is asked to attend the next Outer Court event, at which time they pass through a ritual we call the Eastern Gate, which welcomes the applicant as a student.

Once one has been a Student for six months or more, they may petition to become an Advanced Student or Dedicant. The same process more or less applies.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Blessed Be,
Weaver
